Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

Effective date: 22 October 2025

Morse Code World Ltd (“we”, “our”, or “us”) operates MorseCode.World (the “Site”). We respect your privacy and comply with applicable privacy laws, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR as enacted through the Data Protection Act 2018, and the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA (CCPA/CPRA).

1. Information We Collect

  • User-entered content (Translator only): The only user-supplied information we store is free-text you may choose to send using the “Send your message to a friend” feature of the Morse Code Translator. The message is captured in server logs to enable a shareable link and may be retrievable during the log retention window. Logs are automatically deleted after 7 days. No name, email address, or account is required.
  • Technical data: Standard server logs (e.g., IP address, user agent, date/time and requested URLs) are processed for security and operational purposes and retained for short periods.
  • Analytics: We use Matomo, self-hosted by Morse Code World Ltd, to collect anonymized usage statistics. Data is not shared with third parties and no tracking cookies are used for this purpose.
  • Advertising data: Our advertising partner Freestar and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to provide and measure interest-based advertising. See Freestar’s Privacy Policy for details.
  • We do not collect your name, callsign, or other direct identifiers. Where this information is requested, the software keeps the information on your device and does not send it to the server.

2. How We Use Information

  • To generate shareable links for Translator messages.
  • To operate, secure, and improve the Site.
  • To display advertising that funds the Site.
  • To produce aggregated, anonymized analytics.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

3. Cookies & Advertising Preferences

You may be asked to consent to advertising cookies when visiting the Site. You can update your choices at any time via the “Your Privacy Choices” link in the footer. Opting out of advertising cookies does not remove ads, but ads may be less relevant.

You can also opt out of interest-based advertising through the NAI Consumer Opt-Out page.

4. Your Rights

GDPR (EU/UK): You may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or object to processing, and withdraw consent (where applicable). You may also lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.

CCPA/CPRA (California): You may request to know categories and specific pieces of personal information collected, request deletion, and opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” (for cross-context behavioral advertising). We do not sell your personal information for money, but “sharing” may occur for advertising. Use the footer “Your Privacy Choices” link and the NAI Consumer Opt-Out to exercise ad-related choices. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

To exercise GDPR or CCPA/CPRA rights that we can fulfill directly (e.g., log content deletion requests for Translator messages within the 7-day window), email us at [email protected].

5. Data Retention

  • Translator messages in logs: deleted automatically within 7 days.
  • Analytics (Matomo): retained only as necessary for aggregated analysis.
  • Advertising cookies: retention is governed by each third-party provider’s policies.

6. Data Sharing

  • We do not sell or rent your personal information.
  • Advertising data may be collected and processed by Freestar and its partners (see Freestar’s Privacy Policy).
  • Matomo analytics data remains under our control and is not shared with third parties.

7. Children’s Privacy

This Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13.

8. Security

We use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.

9. International Transfers

Depending on your location, data may be processed in countries outside your own. Where required, we implement safeguards to comply with applicable data-transfer rules.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The latest version will always be posted on this page with its effective date.
